How to Become a Teacher and Get into Teaching Jobs

If you’re looking for a career with plenty of job satisfaction, good earning potential, and opportunities to make a difference in the lives of others, teaching may be the perfect profession for you. Every year, thousands of individuals like you decide to become teachers.

But getting started in this rewarding field isn’t always easy. How do you become a teacher? This article will provide an overview of four steps you’ll need to take to become a certified teacher.

Step 1: Consider a teaching career path

The first step to becoming a teacher is earning a teaching degree, ideally an accredited bachelor’s degree program. You can get a degree in any subject area. But most teaching jobs require a  B.Ed degree or post graduation with an Honours course.

Step 2: Get a teacher certification or licence

Once you’ve completed an accredited undergraduate degree program, you’ll need to obtain the proper certification or licensure to work as a teacher. While state requirements vary, most states require prospective teachers to complete an accredited teacher preparation program and pass a series of exams before earning their teaching licence.

The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is a mandatory test that all potential teachers must take and pass to be eligible for teaching jobs in India for classes one to eight. The TET is held by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

You must submit an application form and the prescribed fee to register for the test. The examination is held twice a year. Note that this test is compulsory only for teaching jobs in Indian government schools. If you wish to get into private schools, you need to qualify the interviews or exams based on the school’s eligibility criteria.

Passing the TET is just one of the requirements for getting teaching jobs in India. In addition to passing the TET, candidates must also have a bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited university.

Step 3: Find a teaching job

Once you have met all the qualifications for teaching jobs in India, you can begin your job search. There are many ways to search for teaching jobs. You can search online job portals like Qjobs and newspapers or contact schools directly. The best way is to network with people who are already working in the education field.

To apply for teaching jobs, create a perfect teacher resume and cover letter to apply along with a copy of your TET score and your bachelor’s degree. You may also need to submit transcripts and letters of recommendation to ace the interview.

Once your application has been reviewed, you may be invited to interview for the job. Interviews allow the school to learn more about your qualifications and assess whether you’re a good fit for the position.

If the school decides to hire you, they will extend a job offer. Remember that the hiring process can vary depending on the school’s needs and budget. For example, some schools may only hire teachers for specific subject areas or grade levels, while others may hire teachers on a rolling basis throughout the year.

Knowing the different types of schools and organisations that hire teachers is important when searching for teaching jobs. To find the right fit for you, it’s important to consider your teaching career path, research each type of school, and consider your preferences and qualifications.

Step 4: Start teaching

Once you’ve found a teaching job, it’s time to start planning for your first day of class! In most cases, you’ll be assigned a mentor teacher who can help you get to your new role and answer any questions you have along the way.

Remember to be patient with yourself as you get used to your new role. Teaching can sometimes be challenging, but it’s among the most rewarding professions. You’ll be sure to succeed with a little hard work and dedication.
